St Aidan's Walking Group
The St.Aidan's Walking Group meet each month to enjoy fellowship together and a walk of anything between 5 and 20 miles. Most walks are on a Saturday, normallying meet at 10a.m. at the church (though watch for details as meeting time and venue can vary). Dates for 2010 are shown below.
Generally the walks are between 8 and 12 miles and are suitable for anyone with a minimum level of fitness. Most of the walks are "up-dale" and "across fields" and therefore sturdy, waterproof footware is advised as well a water proof coat (though at times a sun-hat is also needed!). We normally stop for a picnic lunch, so bring a drink and a bite to eat.
Keep an eye on the web site for details of each walk. If you are interested in joining us for any of the walks, please contact Dave Ingram (01482 897576) for details.
NEWS - MAY WALK "WILTING IN THE WOLDS"
Possibly the first time we've considered cancelling the walk because the weather was too hot! However, we braved the heat to walk the 12 mile walk from North Cliffe and along Market Weighton Beck and through Houghton Woods to, hopefully, see the rhododendrons in full flower - or at least that was the plan. Finding part of the walk along the Beck closed, we had to change our route, resulting in us climbing up the only hill for miles around not once, but twice! This was not before the grown men in the group amused themselves on a bridge on the beck using their shadows to scare the dozens of stickleback fish. Whilst the walk was hot, and we didn’t see as many rhododendrons as we had hoped (and therefore didn’t get the shots I wanted – the reason for lugging my SLR camera around whole 12 miles ) the walk was still an enjoyable one. Well done to Dina who joined us for the first time. But what did we learn on the walk (other than how to herd fish with our shadows)? We learned the French meaning of “Cul de sac” – this month’s trivia question with all answers to Andrew Glover. We learned that Fay is spelt without an “e”. We also learned David Gray will offer to suck out the sting of a nettle and for this reason if you every get invited to the Gray’s for a BBQ and you sit on a nettle, say nothing!

Join us, if you dare, for next month walk – 20 miles around the North Wolds Way.
If you would like to join us for a walk later in the year, see the diary dates below or speak to Dave Ingram.
