Dorothy Chapman, Guide Leader writes:

This has been quite a busy year for Guide in general as it is 100 years of guiding.

We have been to Paxwold for the weekend which Jemma planed and we did a camp  in the summer this was a long weekend and we invited Kingston Wesley Guides to  shared this time with us. These were the last Guide holidays that Jane went on before her retirement as leader. She will still be able to come with us as a friend in Guiding so I intend keeping the friendship there.

We started back in September with the Centenary Party which was attended by 10 of our Guides. This was open to Guide, Brownie and Rainbows from Sutton, East Park Baptist, Kingston Wesley and St.Aidans. As you may have seen on the TV there were parties all over the country celebrating 100 years of Guiding on Saturday 5th September and we did our share. We had belly dancing, painting bag and mugs nail painting and one or two other activities for Brownies and Rainbows. This was held at Kingston Wesley from 4 - 8pm and finished with disco and camp fire songs at the end. We also provided food buffet style with jelly and ice-cream for approximately 120 girls and adults.

We had a celebration for Jane and her many years as a Guide leader. I would like to express my thanks for all that she has done for me and the Guides at St.Aidans. I should also like to thank all thoughts who helped with the evening and came to celebrate. Jane dedicated her life to Guiding and I hope that she carries on in the next section because she has a lot to offer and it would be a shame to lose what she has.

Since the New Year it is good to see an increase in the Guides attending Church parade they have all said that they enjoyed it when they came, and for the first time in many year we hosted the Thinking Day Service which is a celebration held each year to remember our sister Guides around the world. This is held on 22nd February and was the Birthdays of Lord and Lady Baden Powel, who founded the movement. This was well attended with over 200 Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from a number of churches in East Hull. Fun was had by all.

I have written this after arriving back from an over sea (international) event to Ghent Belgium. This was an event organised for East Yorkshire Guides to celebrate the centenary. We took 5 girls and they all seemed to enjoy the experience. I hope to be able to continue offering the girls the opportunity to go abroad with the movement. We also have got an ex-Guide of St.Aidans who is a young leader at East Park Baptist Brownies going to India with Guides to do some voluntary work out there.

We meet regularly during school time on a Wednesday in the Hut at 7.15 – 9pm were the Guides work in groups, working for Go For Its, working as a Patrol, working towards badges. If you are interested in knowing more please speak to me and I would be only to pleased to let you know what we do
